JEPARA FRONT VERANDAH

Pendopo berdiri pada tahun 1750 pada masa era Adipati Citro Sumo lll. Beliau merupakan pimpinan pemerintahan ke-23 selama kurun waktu 22 tahun (1730 – 1760). Sedangkan Ayah R.A.

Jepara front verandah was built in 1750 in the era of Adipati Citro Sumo III (the regent). He was the 23rd leader ruled for 22 years (During 1730 to 1760). While R.A. Kartini’s father was the 31st leader ruled for 24 Years (during 1881 to 1905). The function of the front verandah was as the place for the people to submit their tributes / offering for goverment in ancient time. But to day, the fornt verandah used for independence day’s seminars, meetings and for traditional practice / activities. The front verandah has pillars (polres) the big and the small pillars and also it has the original floor bars. The philosophy of the pillars are :

 ·         Yang besar harus mengayomi yang kecil.

·         Pendopo bukan milik orang besar saja tetapi rakyat kecil juga memilikinya.

·         Menurut teknisi yaitu sebagai penyeimbang.

·      The great and influenced people must protect the little people.

·      The front verandah belongs both the great people and the little people.

·      From the construction side the big and the small pillars made for balance

Disetiap pilar bawahnya terdapat besi kecil fungsinya dulu untuk mengikat kendaraan dinas agar tidak lari. Kendaraan dinas dulu yaitu kuda.

Each pillars has a small steel to tied the horse so the horse couldn’t escape. In the ancient time the horse was the inventory vehicle. In the front verandah, there’s a room devider at the front part it called “Gebyok”. The two side of “Gebyok” named Rono Kaputran (with the block Carving) and Rono Kaputren (with the hole carving). Rono Kaputran and Rono Kaputren were the front limit for R.A. Kartini’s activity and she only allowed to peeking through the hole carving of Rono Kaputren. Jepara Front Verandah devided into some areas, as belows :

1.      Ruang Paringgitan

Paringgitan Room

This room was blocked / closed and to day the function has changed so now the room is opened. It is to welcome the guests. On the left side of paringgitan room is the regent’s room and on the right side is the district secretary room. Theree’s also “Macan Kurung” made by Singowiryo. Macan kurung made from a whole wood without any patches. Some philosophies from “Macan Kurung” are :

·         Everybody who makes mistakes, they have to be punished. No matter the great / influenced people or little people. If they are guilty, they have to be in prison.

·         It describes kartini that she was the royal daughter, but she had been restricted, she couldn’t do anything until her marriage proposal.

Kartini. R.A. Kartini dipingit pada umur 12 tahun sampai 16 Tahun. Diruangan ini R.A. The meaning of restriction was to limit her moving space and her activities until her marriage proposal. In front of her bedroom was her family’s dinner room. Kartini had been restrictied from the age of 12 until 16 years old. In her restrictied room kartini spent her time to read and wrote the lettes to her foreign best friends abroad.

5.      Ruang belakang (serambi belakang pendopo)

PENDOPO OF JEPARA REGENCY

The Pendopo (an open typical Javanese hall) was built in 1750 in the era of Adipati Citro Sumi III. He was the-23th ruler and led for 22 years. Pendopo was a place to give offerings, but nowadays it is used for a place to celebrate the anniversary of the regency, a meeting, and also a place for traditional practices. The Soko or posts and floor are originally come from R.A. Kartini era.

The philosophies of small and big Soko/posts are:

- The ones who is big must be taking care of the ones who is small.

- Pendopo is belong to everybody

- According to technician, it functions as a stabilizer

In every post, there is a small iron of which functions was to tie the vehicles. In that era, the vehicles used are horse. You can also find rono keputren (an unperforated separator) and rono kaputran (a perforated separator).  Rono is a kind of separator made of wood which is carved.  These two rono became a separator for R.A. Kartini when she is doing a pingit or seclusion. All she could do was peeking from it. R.A. Kartini’s father was the 21th ruler and led for 24 years. So, as the daughter of the ruler, Kartini could not break the rules.

Parts of the Pendopo.

Parringgitan Room

This room was fully covered, but not anymore. It is because the function changed into a room for greeting the guests. In the left side of the regent room and the right side of administration regional secretary room, there is macan kurung. Macan kurung is a work of art from Jepara made of wood. Macan means tiger, kurung means being caged.

The philosophies of macan kurung are:

-          The lion illustrated a great people. A great people who are wrong must be punished.

-          It was told that the lion is R.A. Kartini. Although she is the daughter of the regent, she had to do seclusion still.

Sitting room

This room is used for greeting a small number of guests. In R.A. Kartini era, it was used for a place to socialize within R.A Kartini’s family. Here, you can find a carving from an intact wood.

Dining room

This room was bedrooms for R.A. Kartini’s family when she was a child. It was divided into four bedrooms. The right side of the back of this room was the bedroom of R.A. Kartini and her sisters. The left side on the back was a bedroom for the brothers. The right side on the front was a bedroom for the Regent while on the left was the bedroom for Garwo Padmi. Garwo padmi is a term used to address the first lady of the regent

Pingitan Room

This is a 3x4 meter room which was a room for R.A. Kartini when she had to do pingit or seclusion. Pingit is when a girl had to be at home for a certain period until a boy-which the girl does not know at all- come to propose her. Pingitan is the person who is doing pingit. In front of the pingitan room was a dining room for R.A. Kartini’s family. R.A. Kartini did pingit when she was 12 years old until 16 years old. In this range of time, she spent her time reading and writing letters for her friends outside.

The back porch

This room has an original doors and windows from R.A. Kartini. In this room also, R.A. Kartini held a school for a girl. By standing in this room, people can see a longitudinal building which was become a public kitchen. Kartini was the one who held a cooking course there. In front of the public kitchen, there are two white champaca trees, her favorite plant.

A building next to Pendopo

The place was a place for M.A. Ngasirah, R.A. Kartini’s mother, to stay, but now the secretariat of Dharma wanita (the organization of the wives of employees of Jepara Regency) takes this place for its office. While, the place of which function was a class for carver which was taught by R.A. Kartini now become an office of PKK (family welfare movement). From this building, visitors can see a high wall and entrance which was guarded by a guard. This wall was the boundary for R.A. Kartini when she had to do pingit . For some reasons, this wall is closed now.

R.A. Kartini was born on April 21st April, 1879. She got married on November 12th 1903, and died on September 17th, 1904.
